Cultural exchange: international or intercultural?
The “International Cultural Exchange” department of the Ministry of Culture supports artistic exchange projects between Hamburg and foreign countries where there is considerable politico-cultural interest in their realisation. The aim of such ministerial support is to enable the Hamburg cultural and creative scene to present itself internationally and to establish international networks. In particular, projects by Hamburg creative artists abroad and by foreign artists in Hamburg attract support.The “Intercultural Cultural Exchange” department supports foreign cultural initiatives and artists in the realisation of cultural projects and events. The objective is to enable Hamburg residents with a foreign background to retain and develop their own cultural identities, to present their art and culture publicly and to strengthen a dialogue of equals between diverse cultures.
