The project aims to add weight to the ban on forced marriages by means of advising and raising awareness on the issue, first and foremost, amongst political and administrative decision makers in Hamburg. In the long term, ideas for the development of prevention especially in the political areas of social integration and youth and family policy will be developed. These aims are to be achieved by organizing Daphne Conferences to which national and international experts are to be invited. The partner organizations listed below will also organize Daphne Conferences in their countries to which political and administrative decision-makers from their region, and experts on the issue of forced marriage will be invited.
Each conference will be divided into two parts: In the first part, characteristics specific to that country relating to the immigrant groups affected by forced marriage and the national and regional political and legal approaches to preventing forced marriage will be analyzed.
In the second part, transnational action strategies to combat forced marriage will be developed. These proposals will be based on successful strategies and approaches in the partner countries and thus provide important impulses for the further development of the Hamburg strategies to combat forced marriage. The project thus is a building block for the Hamburg action plan to combat forced marriage,
We will strive to inform the media about the issue of forced marriage and the conferences at the end of every Daphne Conference with the intention of increasing public awareness of the problem of forced marriage.
At the end of the project we aim to produce a set of European guidelines to combat forced marriage.
