Cultural facilities have great relevance to improved quality of life and participation in the social and cultural world. The Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media therefore takes responsibility for the promotion and funding of cultural institutions and the arts as well as the creative branch.
It supports public cultural institutions, such as theatres, museums, music halls, orchestras and public libraries. Furthermore it funds projects and facilities in the performing arts, music, visual arts, literature and film just as youth culture, cross media projects and cultural exchange.
The Media Office of the Ministry is responsible for the promotion of the media industry and the regulation of the media sector.
The Ministry of Culture and Media furthermore represents the interests of Heritage Preservation and ensures the preservation of archival documents and access to them.
