The Elbphilharmonie is a synthesis of the arts in the flow of the Elbe, at the interface of city and harbour.
The Elbphilharmonie functions not only as a beacon for the new HafenCity, but also for Hamburg as a city of music: its centrepiece is a concert hall with 2,150 seats, one of the best of its kind. It offers great music from all genres. Lively interpretations of classical masterpieces are just as important as the discovery of contemporary music from various cultures – performed by the world’s best artists and the resident orchestras and ensembles.
At the same time, the Elbphilharmonie is more than just a concert hall. The freely accessible plaza at a height of 37 metres opens up to the harbour, the city and the people with its spectacular panorama; a house for Hamburg and its citizens. The Elbphilharmonie is only conceivable here: in the flow of the Elbe, at the interface of city and harbour.
The building by architects Herzog & de Meuron also houses a hotel and 45 flats. The Elbphilharmonie is a total work of art, a unique experience of architecture, music and the location on the water.
