Data on cancer incidence is published regularly and used for many purposes.

Hamburg Cancer Registry

The Hamburg Cancer Registry regularly evaluates data on cancer incidence in the Hamburg resident population and on oncological care in the Hanseatic City. The results are published interactively online as annual report (residence-based) and annual report (treatment and facility-location-based). In addition, the HCR participates in national and international reporting as well as in research projects and scientific publications. Under "Use of data" you will find information on how to request data from the HKR.

Chapter overview

Residence-based data and reports

Data query: Figures on new cases from 1995 onwards and deaths from 2002 onwards in Hamburg's resident population make possible longer time series.

Interactive annual report (based on place of residence): Information on new cases, mortality and prevalence in the resident population of Hamburg for a 10-year period is prepared in the form of graphs, tables and small-scale maps for the most common tumour entities. Current evaluations on the survival of cancer patients as well as information on tumour characteristics, reporting origin and methodology complete the report.

Hamburg Cancer Documentation 2016-2018: The print or PDF report provides an overview of cancer incidence in the population as well as the history and current work of the Hamburg Cancer Registry.

Chapter overview

Treatment and facility-related report

Interactive annual report (based on treatment location): The evaluations refer to all persons receiving oncological care in Hamburg, regardless of their place of residence. In addition to information on case numbers, age distribution, tumour data, metastasis and therapy, the quality of the reports overall as well as in comparison of the reporting Hospitals and practices is the subject of this report.

Chapter overview

Cancer reporting nationally and internationally

The Hamburg data on cancer are also included in nationally and internationally published evaluations and publications:

Use of cancer registry data in research

Aggregated data and anonymized individual data may be provided by the HCR, in particular for the purposes of scientific research and for assessing the quality of oncological care (§§ 7 and 8 HmbKrebsRG).

At the request of universities, scientific institutes and other public institutions, personal data may also be provided under certain conditions (cf. § 9 HmbKrebsRG). This enables e.g. to specifically interview cancer patients or ask them to participate in special research projects. Different application forms are available (only in German) for the corresponding data formats:
