During his first trip to Dubai, Dr Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor and President of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, met H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on 27 January 2019. In discussing the potential for a closer economic cooperation of both metropolises, they identified a number of strategic fields in which an exchange of experiences was agreed upon: smart city solutions, autonomous transport, blockchain and 3D printing.
Dr Tschentscher and the delegation from Hamburg was received by H.E.Buamim at Dubai Chamber’s headquarters, where both sides explored new opportunities to expand the bilateral cooperation beyond the existing scope to emerging areas such as digitization of services, the development of a blockchain strategy for public services, as well as autonomous transport. In addition, Hamburg is especially interested to develop the 3D printing technologies in various industries. Since these topics are also a focus of Dubai’s Smart Strategy, closer cooperation and exchange of best practices was agreed upon.
For his part, H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that Dubai-Hamburg relations have gone from to strength to strength in recent years, thanks to high-level visits, growing exchange between the two business communities, and progress achieved at the Dubai-Hamburg Business Forum. He noted that Dubai and Hamburg are leading the way in the adoption of smart city solutions, digitalized services, and disruptive technologies, adding that there is plenty of room to expand cooperation in these areas and create mutual benefits.
Dubai and Hamburg share more than ten years of cooperation, mainly carried by the strategic partnership between Dubai and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. In the course of this partnership, several Dubai Hamburg Business Forums were conducted in Dubai and Hamburg. Dubai Chamber regularly participates with an exhibitor pavilion and delegation at SMM Hamburg, the largest shipbuilding exhibition worldwide, and Hamburg has been present at the Arab Health with a growing number of exhibitors for more than 15 years.
During their stay in Dubai, Dr Tschentscher and his delegation also visited Smart Dubai and Dubai Future Foundation, visited Arab Health and met Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airlines. Hamburg is the world’s third largest aviation center, and the A380 aircrafts ordered by Emirates are being assembled in Hamburg. Emirates is the main sponsor of Hamburg’s local football club HSV.
