Notifying changes / Applying to change your claim

If your housing benefit claim is approved, housing benefit will be paid to you. Payment will continue for as long as specified in your housing benefit notice ( called the authorisation period).

Changes to my domestic situation

While you are receiving housing benefit, you are obliged to inform the housing benefit office of certain changes to your domestic situation as soon as you find out about them. (§27 Section 3 WoGG) In addition, you can make voluntary notifications of changes (especially ones that work in your favour).

You can be obliged to notify the following in particular:

  • if there is a change in the number of household members to be taken into account,
  • if the total income of all household members increases,
  • if the outgoings and liabilities of your household decrease (e.g. rental or heating costs)
  • if you move house.
