Dear Secretary Marcó del Pont,
Dear Secretary Royon,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you very much for welcoming our delegation to the Casa Rosada.
Today we want to talk about our strategies for renewable energies and green hydrogen.
Hamburg is working hard to decarbonize our industry, the mobility sector, and our energy supply. We want to become climate-neutral as soon as possible.
The transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy and fuels like green hydrogen is a challenge. But we also see it as an opportunity.
Hamburg has the third-largest port in Europe and the biggest industrial area in Germany. Our city is home to strong, innovative companies and world-class research institutions.
We have formed strong alliances between business and industry, the scientific community, and our city government.
Together, we are implementing policies that support the decarbonization of industrial production, the development of sustainable urban infrastructure, and the shift of our energy sector towards climate-friendly power sources and technologies.
Hamburg is an important center for onshore and offshore wind energy. Two out of three wind parks off the German coast are managed from our city.
This September, Hamburg will host “Wind Energy 2022”, the leading trade fair for the international wind energy industry.
In order to use wind power for our industry, we are planning a large-scale electrolyzer. The green hydrogen that we will generate is going to be used in our port, in the aviation sector, and for the production of steel and metals.
But the energy needs of our city and of our industrial producers will go beyond our own production capacities. This is why Hamburg is aiming to become a leading hub for the import and distribution of green hydrogen in Europe.
We already have a lot of relevant infrastructure in place and are investing in additional facilities and new technology to prepare for the hydrogen trade.
As a future importer of green hydrogen, Hamburg is looking to build successful, long-term trade relationships with international partners.
We believe that importers and exporters on both sides of the Atlantic will benefit from creating a stable and efficient green hydrogen economy.
I am very interested to learn more about Argentina’s strategy for renewable energy and green hydrogen today and to explore areas for potential co-operation.
Thank you very much.
