Unterzeichnung eines MoU zwischen dem Hamburger Senat, der Hamburg Port Authority und dem Energieministerium Chile

Dear Minister Huepe,
Dear State Secretary Fuentes,
Dear Ms. Valderrama,
Dear Mr. Stuhrmann,

Ladies and Gentlemen, Germany and Chile, as well as more than 190 states of the world, have signed the Paris Agreement, to fight climate change and reduce global warming.

To achieve our goals, we need to make the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energies and fuels like green hydrogen. This transition is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century. But it is also one of the biggest opportunities.

Hamburg and Chile can play significant roles in the international green hydrogen economy. With its great potential for the production of green hydrogen, Chile is about to become a major exporter of this important resource.

Hamburg is preparing to generate green hydrogen from wind energy. But our energy needs will go beyond our production capacities.

The Port of Hamburg is Germany’s largest port and the biggest hub for international rail logistics in Europe. We offer excellent conditions for import and distribution and are investing in additional facilities and technologies to become the leading European hydrogen hub.

Together, Hamburg and Chile will be strong partners in the development of an efficient and mutually beneficial green hydrogen trade.

This Memorandum of Understanding between the Hamburg Senate, the Hamburg Port Authority, and the Energy Ministry of Chile will be a strong foundation for a successful partnership on all levels: between our ports and institutions, between researchers and scientists, and between private companies.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today we have taken an important step towards the future. Hamburg and Chile will not only shape the green hydrogen economy together.

We will also deepen the connections between our two countries, and between Latin America and Europe.

Thank you very much.
